About Us
About Heidi
Heidi grew up in Vermont. She escaped the Green Mountain State in 2001 for college in Boston. After college, and running head on into her quarter-life crisis (for the first time) she headed off to Washington, DC in hopes of a career working in the halls of Congress. It was here that she met Adam. While working a high stress job in government relations, she decided to run her first marathon. It was then that a love/hate relationship with running started back up. The career with government relations came and went, and she landed at an awesome company after her and Adam moved back to Connecticut. It was with that company that she pursued her passion for social media and community management. After working for LivingSocial in Washington, DC, she has recently moved onto a Patient Advocate/Marketing Coordinator role for a Physical Therapy firm in Severna Park. In addition she is also webmaster and social media manager for Junior League of Annapolis. She has run 4 marathons, 3 (soon to be 4) half marathons and various other road races. She enjoys being outdoors as much as she loves trashy television. You can also find her blogging about her adventures in finding health and happiness here.
About Adam
Adam’s passion has always been at the intersection of politics and technology. During his time in DC he used his blog adamjschmidt.com to keep in touch with Connecticut politics and to provide commentary on national events. He also had the opportunity to serve as a guest contributor on the BBC during the 2008 presidential race. Most recently he’s managed online communications and social media as a communications consultant on political campaigns in his home state of Connecticut. Adam is currently training to be a combat medic with the Maryland National Guard and will be completed with BCT/AIT by May 2012.
How we met…
On a warm August day, a “mutual friend” invited us both to dinner. Not with the intention of setting us up, but it did spark a friendship that grew over the next few weeks. Finally, one Friday night Adam invited Heidi out for drinks, this sparked a whirlwind weekend that involved drinks on the Georgetown Waterfront, much flirting, a stolen kiss in a cab, lots of Dunkin Donuts and ending with a late night tour of the Capitol and dancing under the rotunda. This started a romance that led to them being inseparable often describing the other as best friends. On a random Sunday night in June 2008, Adam let it slip that he had purchased a ring. Both of them knew they would be married eventually, it was just a question of when. Friday the 13th 2008, Adam finally popped the question, first saying “here, this is for you.” As he handed Heidi the ring box while juggling the ring box and his sunglasses. Of course she said yes, and then they were scolded by a nearby homeless man as they were told to “get a room.” They were married in September 2009 in a magical wedding starting with the holy sacrament of marriage at St. Peter’s Church in Washington, DC followed by a beautiful reception with 100 of their closest family and friends at the Capitol Hill Club. The wedding was followed by a week long honeymoon in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and shortly after that, they moved to Connecticut to pursue opportunities outside of the district. A year and a couple of campaigns later, they’re hightailing it out of the Northeast for the haven of the mid-Atlantic where jobs aren’t scarce and friends are aplenty.
It is that move that has inspired this blog, read on and find out all about our adventures!
